What is you wouldn't have to worry about disk drive letters? What is there was a technology designed to unite all the hard disk space available? Well, then Windows Home Server Drive Extender
is the answer to all your prayers. Microsoft revealed that the Windows Home Server Drive Extender technology is an integer part of Windows Home Server.

Todd Headrick, the product planner for the Microsoft Windows Home Server, explained that the technology is designed to enable WHS customers to easily manage the addition of disk space on their home server, while scraping C:,D:,E:. This is possible due to the fact that Windows Home server combines all the disk space into a large single storage location.

"Windows Home Server Drive Extender provides the reliability benefits of RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) with the ability to use internal and/or external hard drives (USB 2.0 or FireWire) of varying sizes for additional storage. New hard drives added to Windows Home Server are formatted before they are added to the available disk space," Headrick said.

With the Windows Home Server Drive Extender, users will not be limited to adding more hard drives of the same type and size as in the case of RAID solutions; additionally, they can use both internal and external HDDs.

"Windows Home Server supports reliability by duplicating designated shared folders - so important data (e.g. your Photos, Music, etc.) will be stored on separate hard drives helping to provide protection against hard drive failure. Duplication is configurable on a per shared folder basis, so a given shared folder can have multiple copies, with each one being stored on a separate hard drive," Headrick added.
