2K Games, as the publisher, and Digital Extremes, as the developer, have announced that they are working on a new The Darkness video game, set to be delivered during the fall launch season of this year on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

The Darkness II will take place about two years after the events of the first game, with Jackie Estacado now the head of Franchetti crime syndicate and with the Darkness firmly under his control.

But the man is still troubled by the experiences he has gone through and it seems that someone else wants to see the Darkness in action and provokes its reemergence by making an attempt on Jackie's life.

Initial gameplay details say that Jackie will be able to quad wield weapons in The Darkness II.

Paul Jenkins, who is an award winning comic book writer, will be in charge of the narrative part of The Darkness II and will deliver both a dark atmosphere punctuated by violence and flashes of grim humor.

Christoph Hartmann, who is the president of 2K, said when the announcement was made, “The Darkness II is a well of dark and imaginative violence, and it’s a stylized and beautiful nightmare.”

Digital Extremes has a lot of experience with this kind of game, having worked together with Epic Games on the Unreal franchise and with Irrational Games on BioShock.

He added, “The Darkness II continues the 2K Games tradition of delivering quality, innovative games that are filled to the brim with atmosphere and deep storytelling. The game takes a unique stance on fighting in the dark versus light. Combined with the arsenal of weapons at Jackie’s disposal and the gruesome attacks of the supernatural Demon Arms and Darkness powers, we’re proud to announce another title that delivers on our core values of creating games for gamers.”
