Nintendo's console doesn't seem to be the most suitable platform for horror games, but a change every now and then can definitely do
no harm. At least that's what Deep Silver appears to believe, since it has just announced its newest project, Cursed Mountain, a survival horror designed specifically and exclusively for Wiis.
There are not many details on the title yet, but we do know that the action will be set in the 80s and gamers will take on the role of a fearless climber who needs to go up the Himalaya Mountains in order to find his lost brother. As you'll ascend the mountain, an ancient curse will be revealed: the souls of the people who died in that region are stuck in limbo, meaning that dead villagers, pilgrims, mountaineers and Buddhist monks are what you'll find on the mountain. It's quite a strange concept for such a family friendly console like the
Wii.
"With a fresh setting, gloomy atmosphere and the innovative use of the
Wii controls, Cursed Mountain will deliver a unique, terrifying game play experience," said Hannes Seifert, Managing Director at the Deep Silver development studio. "We are confident that with its dense atmosphere and unique setting, Cursed Mountain will resonate with hardcore gamers, particularly since the game takes full advantage of the Wii control capabilities. It will help in further establishing our premium games label Deep Silver internationally."
Unfortunately, the developer did not reveal the genre of the game, but we're inclined to believe that we're going to get an action adventure title. We do know that we'll have to fight against the living dead, accessing the Wiimote and we'll probably use the motion sensitive controller to climb up the mountains, too. We'll probably get more details closer to Cursed Mountain's release date, which will not happen until 2009.
