The Crew, Ubisoft's upcoming open-world racing video game, is also coming to the Xbox 360, in addition to the initially announced PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms, but not to the PlayStation 3.

The racing game is a very ambitious project with a massive open world and a huge scale, so pretty much nobody expected it to be ported to the last generation of consoles, but yesterday Ubisoft announced that it would also come to the Xbox 360.

The news, however exciting for owners of Microsoft's last-generation console, proved to be disgruntling for many owners of Sony's PlayStation 3, and they quickly demanded that developer and publisher Ubisoft provided an answer.

Ubisoft was also quick to answer, telling fans of racing games that porting the game to the Xbox 360 was simply easier.

"The Crew was originally built for the new generation of consoles, so when we made the decision to port it to the previous generation, we decided to focus solely on the platform closest to the new-gen's technical infrastructure, which is the Xbox 360," an Ubisoft representative told Kotaku.

The fact that the PlayStation 3 has a pretty complicated architecture is widely known, and however rewarding it might be once you get the hang of it and figure out what goes where, porting a game of such massive scope is still a daunting task.

This is actually one of the main reasons Sony made sure that the PlayStation 4 console would be much easier to work with, but it's still unsatisfactory for owners of the console. In any case, at least Ubisoft was upfront about it, letting PS3 owners know that they could't be bothered with porting The Crew because it was too hard.

In any case, The Crew is an open-world racing game that takes place all across the United States, and Ubisoft reported that it took around 90 minutes of continuous driving to get from coast to coast, which, although not exactly accurate unless you're driving a jet fighter, is still pretty impressive, particularly so since the devs bragged that there were no loading screens or separate sections, and players could simply seamlessly drive all across the map.

The upcoming racing game has a pretty big emphasis on multiplayer, either cooperative or competitive, with up to eight different players supported for competing in races and the other game types, but missions can also be enjoyed alone.

The Crew is currently scheduled for take-off on November 11 in North America and November 14 in Europe, coming to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and PC platforms.
