As with home sound systems, qualitative sound requires good receivers and players. And since most people only listen to mp3s in their cars, they need a good receiver with excellent format compatibility.

If you are one of those people, you might be interested in the latest product from Clarion, the DXZ778 USB, a high-end CD receiver with phase correction for a perfect spaciousness with precise sound localization, with six-channel 6 volt pre-amplifier outputs, and intuitive Slidetrack control.

Excellent sound quality is ensured by the 24 bit D/A converter, which is paired with a 3-band equaliser for good control over lows, mids and highs. If you are not among those people who like their lungs shaken off (by the way, prolonged exposure to insane levels of bass coming from a subwoofer that takes up all of your trunk space will damage your internal organs), you'll probably find that the MOS-FET power amplifiers with 4x 53 watts integrated are quite enough for the car.

Moving on to the formats, the integrated CD drive can play all common CD types and is compatible with MP3, WMA and ACC files. Let's not forget about Clarion's USB Connector that allows you to access USB mass storage devices and mp3 players. Using the 1-meter cable, the USB port can be extended to the glove box, allowing the MP3 player or hard drive to always be safely stowed away in the car. The manufacturer says that the song limit is 65,025, so it's unlikely you'll have problems in that department.

A 728-colour motorized detachable control panel with "SLIDETRAK" control serves as your interface to USB and Bluetooth connectivity. The Slidetrak makes it possible to precisely control the key functions of the control device. With a simple movement of your fingertip, you have all key functions under control. Additionally, the Slidetrak maximizes the available space on the front of the control device.

If the DXZ778 USB tickles your fancy, Clarion sells it for under 400 euros, but don't forget about the speaker investment!
