That's what Taiwan-based motherboard makers believe anyhow

Back in 2013, the China market accounted for 40% of global DIY motherboard shipments, which has led Taiwan-based motherboard makers to believe that the country will be essential this year, and the others coming after it.

About 75% DIY motherboards were shipped globally in 2013, 15 million used to assemble PCs by local vendors, and 60 million through retail, straight to customers.

40% of those ended up in China. And of those that reached China, 60% sold in the smaller cities and towns.

Also, 10% of the DIY China market motherboards shipped through online platforms, something that Taiwan-based vendors want to improve.

Basically, the reason that the DIY motherboard market (and, by extension, the desktop PC market) isn't doing any worse is because the Chinese are picking up the slack left by the rest of the planet.
