While Intel is preparing to overwhelm the world through quantity, AMD is baffling it with quality, or rather one specific processor whose price is surprisingly low.

To be more specific, Advanced Micro Devices has been working on a certain Sempron processor bearing a price of just $31 / €31.

The accelerated processing unit cut some corners to get that low, but it still has two cores (1.45 GHz clock), 1 MB of L2 cache, and integrated graphics (Radeon HD 8240).

The TDP (thermal design power) is of 25W, which is, unfortunately, a fair bit higher than the 10W TDP of the Intel Bay Trail Atom parts Kabini units are supposed to compete against.

On the flip side, Atom have less performance, at least on the graphics side of things, and the nearest other competitor, Intel Celeron G1820 (TDP of 54W), doesn't sell for less than $49 / €49.

In addition to the AMD Sempron 2650, the Sunnyvale company is preparing the Sempron 3850 ($36 / €36 price, 1.3 GHz quad-core, 2 MB L2 cache, Radeon HD 8280).

There are two Athlon units as well, the quad-core Athlon 5350 (2 MB L2 cache, HD 8400 GPU, 1.6 GHz) and Athlon 5150 (2.05 GHz, same for the rest). They ship for $54 / €54 and $45 / €45, respectively.
