Famous games designer Ron Gilbert, the man behind the recent The Cave title, has confirmed that he's departing from his position at Double Fine Productions in order to pursue other projects.

Ron Gilbert is the man responsible for many great adventure games including Day of the Tentacle, Maniac Mansion, or The Secret of Monkey Island, but also newer ones like Deathspank.

Recently, the designer teamed up with longtime friend Tim Schafer and created alongside Double Fine Productions a side-scrolling adventure game called The Cave.

Now, Gilbert has revealed, via his blog, that he's departing from Double Fine to pursue other projects.

"Now that The Cave is done and unleashed on an unsuspecting world (ok, we did do a bunch of PR, so it wasn't exactly unsuspecting), it's time for me to move on from Double Fine and plot my next move. So many games left to be designed," he said.

Gilbert thanked the Double Fine team and Tim Schafer for helping him create the new game.

"I want to thank all the amazing people at Double Fine for all their hard work on The Cave. It was a true pleasure to work with every one of them over the past two years. So much fun. I will miss them all. And of course to Tim for creating the opportunity to come there and make The Cave."

Now, Gilbert will focus on a side project that's been in development with the help of another designer, in the form of Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG, which will appear on the iOS platform, meaning iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Expect to hear much more about Gilbert's next few projects and the new titles from Double Fine in the near future.
