The Call of Cthulhu for Mobiles Announced

- Released by Mayhem Studio

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

Mayhem Studio, a game developer from Spain, announced the release of a new mobile game based on "The call of Chtulhu", the famous horror / Sci-Fi short story written by H. P. Lovecraft in 1928. "The Call of Cthulhu: Darkness Within, Book 1" is the full name of the game and it's also based on "The Call of Chtulhu" RPG series published by
Chaosium, the California-based company that unveiled the first game with this title more than 25 years ago (in 1981).

The Mayhemian Call of Chtulhu is said to be the first "graphic adventure designed for mobiles" and for the moment we have no reason not to believe this.

The English presentation of the game, available on Mayhem's website, is a bit confusing, most probably because of a not-so-good translation from the original Spanish text. Anyway, we still get to find out some details about the game's story, set in the hot deserts of Egypt, in the 1920s, when an earthquake unveiled the remains of an ancient city. Helped by professor Cornelius Osgood who is Dean of Miskatonic University, players have to investigate the myth of Chtulhu until the truth is brought to light.

During the game, you will have to solve mysterious murders, look for clues or make tough decisions - all in a dark adventure that offers some funny moments too, from time to time.

For the moment, the new adventure game seems to be available only in Spain, for 3.6 Euro (or $5.6), paid by SMS. However, Mayhem Studio says "The Call of Cthulhu: Darkness Within" is created for global distribution, so all mobile gamers who want some Egyptian mysteries on their mobiles will soon have the chance to try the new game – with the sole condition to own a Java MIDP 2.0 enabled phone.

Until then, Mayhem (the game developer, not the metal band) has prepared a trailer with its new title, which we present to you below. Enjoy:
