Playdead has released its masterpiece of a game, LIMBO, for iPhone and iPad. Priced at $4.99 / €4.49, the game promises an experience like no other.

Playdead’s description of the game is brief, mainly because the reviews hitting the web since its 2009 release have been making enough noise to confirm that it’s a masterpiece.

“Uncertain of his sister's fate, a boy enters LIMBO,” says Playdead. The little boy wakes up in a dark world filled with dangers, such as giant mosquitos and spiders, flooding pools, fragile stairways, etc.

According to Wikipedia, in the theology of the Catholic Church, Limbo refers to edge or boundary, or the “edge” of Hell. There doesn’t seem to be much connection between the Catholic Limbo and the game, but there you have it.

It requires at least iPad 2, iPhone 4S, or iPod touch (5th gen).
