One of the most anticipated releases of the summer is, without a doubt, “The Bourne Legacy,” the Jason Bourne spinoff / sequel / reboot that angered as many fans as it intrigued with its premise of a Bourne-less Bourne film.

Several new images to promote it are now out, and you can check them out in the gallery below, courtesy of SlashFilm.

They include shots of the Jason Bourne-like agent played by Jeremy Renner, but also an image of Edward Norton in character – for those who don't know, he plays the villain.

At the same time, director Tony Gilroy, who worked on the scripts of previous Bourne films, insists that the franchise will still make sense, even without Matt Damon and the character he made so famous and popular.

“Everything that happened was completely real, but you thought you knew what was going on. You thought you were seeing the world, and this movie is telling you that there’s a much larger world, a much larger conspiracy beyond this,” he says in an interview cited by the same media outlet.

“The Bourne Legacy” will be out in theaters on August 3, 2012.
