According to the information published by PaidContent, VeriSign has been today acquired by MoreOver Technologies, a company dealing with the aggregation of news feeds, which are supplied to several online services, like Ask Jeeves or MSN Network.

Sources close to the transaction, cited by PaidContent, claim that the money paid by VeriSign for the acquisition of MoreOver amounts to approximately $30 million. Considering that MoreOver is one of the main online aggregators of news and business type applications, we could say that VeriSign has closed a good business.

The acquisition comes only a few days after a similar company was taken over, Weblogs.com, a "ping" type service, which automatically sends notifications after one of the monitored blogs or other sites is updated. In the press release, VeriSign announces its plans to use the service in order to achieve a more stable communication for blogs.

MoreOver has a pretty convincing "resume", with offices in San Francisco and London, and partners like Atlas Ventures, Reuters Venture Capital and Dawntreader Ventures. The company's most famous product is CI-Metabase and represents the largest XML database.

These acquisitions and mergers in the field of blogging outline the importance of this communication method and both users' and companies' increasing interest in accurate, precise and on time information.
