Even though it's not the iPhone, it sells very well

The new  Blackberry Storm has been and still is one of the most appreciated models on the market, now officially becoming Verizon's best selling phone. Even though many compare its success to that of the iPhone, thus trying to undermine it, the Storm still raises people's interest.

As we already mentioned in other articles, RIM and Apple have had the biggest year-to-year and quarter-to-quarter success in 2008, with the iPhone stealing most of the glory due to its quadrupled sales growth in the second quarter compared to the previous year. The competition hasn’t done so well, with only approximately twice as many models sold in comparison with 2007.

Even though only 33% of Storm buyers have declared that they are still satisfied with their mobile, Blackberry handsets continue to be very appreciated. In any case, the company has a lot to pride itself with, especially now that Verizon has named the Storm its best selling model. RIM has stated that its Q3 earnings have been higher than ever, and that even though some figures might be contrary to actual facts, the demand still cannot be fully satisfied.

This represents a great advantage for Verizon, which needs such results if it is to keep up with T-Mobile and AT&T's iPhone sales. Also coming as an advantage for Verizon is the fact that all Blackberry users need to sign deals for Internet access, thus significantly increasing Verizon's overall profit.

Should the demand be just as great, though RIM has stated that the supply is replenished regularly, then this might spell trouble for Apple, which is facing a new competitor now, in Google's phone. Some rumors are circulating that even if Apple has had an incredible sales growth this year, with the new handset appearances due to arrive shortly, 2009 might just be end of the iPhone's reign in the mobile business.
