The BitTorrent downloads are very popular nowadays because all the users interested in this way of saving files from the web can take movies, games and music in no time. But this doesn't necessarily mean that all the content available through BitTorrent are
legal and the users are allowed to download it with no risk. It's well known the fact that numerous BitTorrent websites were shut down due to pirated content published on its pages which could be easily downloaded and redistributed by the registered members.

Some time ago, the US authorities started a national campaign which required TorrentSpy to shut down and to provide private information about the users accessing the product. Although it was sent to the court, the TorrentSpy representatives refused to offer the required details because it could have meant infringing on users' privacy which was clearly protected by the internal guidelines.

But TorrentSpy was not the only BitTorrent service affected by the laws. Demonoid, IsoHunt and some other similar technologies were also closed after the authorities discovered pirated content or sign of illegal material.

Sure, nobody can blame the copyright holders for accusing the BitTorrent websites for distributing illegal copies of their content. However, I heard numerous users who were ready to donate money and even hardware devices for the BitTorrent services which provided them all the pirated content. It's illegal but they really don't understand how bad it is

A few consumers who were brave enough to upload pirated content on the web found their home in prison as the copyright owners filed lawsuits against them. Take the example of ECOtotal, the user who uploaded pirated copies of "24" on Google's video sharing service YouTube even before it was officially released in the US. Fox demanded and received private details about the user from YouTube which was then used to identify and send him to the judge.
