The Bigs, also known as The BIGS, is an arcade baseball video game developed by Blue Castle Games and published by 2K Sports that has been released for the PlayStation
3, the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 2 and even the PlayStation Portable. The game came out on the market in 2007.
There are multiple game modes in the BIGS, the most interesting being Rooster Management, Home Run Derby and Home Run Pinball. The last one mentioned is very entertaining because of the fact that it allows the player to hit baseballs into flashing neon signs in Times Square in New York.
The game also features a Rookie Challenge career mode. You will create a player, giving him unique attributes and skills, and then you will try out for a position in one of the Major League baseball clubs. After you get hired, you play a regular season of the championship and try to lead the team to the World Series, while also becoming the Most Valuable Player.
As you play through the game, you get to unlock elements that add to the backstory of the character that you play. You get a player nickname, which the fans will shout from the stands, different bat graphics and even new bats. As you play more and more games, you acquire points that can be used to upgrade certain skills that the player has.
The game does not feature a precise physics system and the way the baseball behaves once hit with the bat is designed to produce longer and more successful shots.
GAMEPLAY HINTS
Easy points
Fill up the points bar and wait until your opponent uses Power Blast. Strike the batter out with Big Heat and you will get 100,000 points for a Big Strike Out.
Easy runs
Use a few batters before your rookie is up, and get base hits with them. Use Carl Crawford, Hank Blaylock and Justin Morneau. Load up the bases if possible. Once they are loaded, you should be able to hit a home run with your rookie without problems. If you do this four times, you will receive unlimited Power Blasts for the rest of the game.
Easy homeruns
When you can get bat graphics, select the flame bat. Try to get your power ratings to the maximum. Once you have done that, you will automatically hit home runs.
Aim the batter in his batting direction and slightly up, then press Circle to hit a homerun. If the batter is right-handed, aim him to the right and up and press Circle. Usually, this will result in a homerun.
