Summer is not over just yet, the calendar one at least, but Google's is. The eight edition of Google Summer of Code is wrapping up and thousands of students are finally free to actually have a vacation, the few weeks they have left. This year's edition was the biggest yet, as has always been the case.

There 180 organizations involved this year fostering some 1,212 students from all over the world. 45 of those organizations were newcomers, though the big regulars participated as well.

All in all, there was something for everyone, from desktop environments to web apps, students had their pick on what to work on, provided of course they were a good fit for the project.

But all of that is over now, or at least it should be, students should have had everything done by now with the few days until August 20, the final deadline, left for testing the code and final bug-fixing.
