The Instagram team is pleased to announce this week that mobile users have yet another reason to choose their service over other social networks that mingle with photography.

Instagram is easily one of the most popular things in the world, so ranking it against other things in its genre is useless at this point. The app is a blast. It also gets frequent updates with functionalities that people are asking for. Such as the new editing feature for captions.

Easier caption editing

“Today, we’re pleased to announce a bundle of updates and improvements designed to help you discover more on Instagram,” reads a post on the Instagram blog.

According to the Instagram people, you no longer have to edit an entire post or pull photos and then re-upload them. All you need to do now is hit Edit and make the necessary alterations. Of course, if you ask us, it should have been like this all along.

The team explains: “We’ve added the ability to go back and edit captions on your posts. When you share a moment to Instagram, a typo shouldn’t get in the way.”

According to the developers, the editing function is actually one of the top requests that they’ve heard from the user base, “and we’re excited to finally bring it to you today.” The option can be found underneath every image.

Improved Explore page (Photos and People)

Instagram 6.2.0 also includes improvements in the discovery department. Users will be able to find people they like much easier via the People tab.

“In this update, we’re continuing to improve the Explore page on Instagram by making it faster to find people you want to follow. With this in mind, you’ll see that the Explore icon at the bottom of your screen has changed to a magnifying glass,” the Instagram team explains.

By tapping Explore, users are presented with two tabs, one named Photos, the other dubbed People. The Photos section remains unchanged, so if you’re a big fan of this area don’t worry, nothing has been taken away from you. However, the People area is a different matter altogether. It’s there specifically to highlight “interesting accounts for you to discover,” according to the team of engineers behind Instagram.

These new features are available in Instagram for 6.2 iOS and Instagram 6.10 for Android. iDevice users can be on a firmware as low as iOS 6.0 and still use the app without a problem.
