A total of four antivirus solutions have been the accolade of the prestigious Virus Bulletin VB100 tests for Windows Vista. Only four products have won the VB100% award after the benchmarking on Windows Vista. The security solutions belong to F-Secure, Grisoft, Sophos and Symantec and have been designed to deliver full support for Windows Vista.

The tests involved a total of 15 security products and were performed against a dynamically updated list of malicious code currently active. The products from F-Secure, Grisoft, Sophos and Symantec outperformed their competitors and are at the top solutions to protect Windows Vista.

“Companies upgrading to Windows Vista still require anti-virus protection, so it's important that independent bodies conduct these sorts of tests,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. “Sophos customers can rest assured that if they upgrade their PCs to Vista they can still rely on the very best protection against the rising tide of malware.”

Although Microsoft has applauded Windows Vista as the safest operating system to exit Redmond, company representatives including Jim Allchin, the former Co-President Platform and Services Division, referred to Vista as being neither foolproof nor perfect.

In fact, adding security solutions is just as necessary as it has been with previous editions of Windows. Microsoft itself has put together Windows Live OneCare delivering protection against viruses and spyware. However the Redmond Company's OneCare as well as Microsoft's first steps into the security industry have been regarded with criticism and amazement given the software juggernaut security history. In the VB100 OneCare performed poorly compared to the rival products form household names on the security market.
