According to experts, self-driving cars could represent a possible avenue for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. These vehicles would help reduce the amount of fossil fuels current automobiles use, while also keeping traffic more fluid and safe.

The goal here is to obtain vehicles that can park themselves, figure out how fast they are going in relation to other vehicles on the road, break when the situation demands it, and alert the driver to useful information collected from the traffic situation.

BMW, Audi, and General Motors are just some of the car manufacturers that have already begun researching this technology. Their future vehicles will be able to become increasingly fuel-efficient, while also ensuring that their passengers get to their destination safer and faster, Technology Review reports.
