Terra, the largest Internet company in Latin America, has managed to sign an agreement with the International Olympic Committee, that allows it to broadcast the Beijing 2008 Olympics on the Internet and mobile platforms. The company was chosen, as the official website of the Olympics states, because of its capacity to fully profit from the opportunity and also due to the fact that its guiding lines are in conformity with the Olympic
spirit.

International Olympic Committee's Board Member Richard Carrión seemed thrilled by the agreement, seeing it as an opportunity to expand the audience of the Olympics. "Digital media coverage of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games around the world is set to eclipse all previous editions of the Games, and these platforms represent an increasingly important means for communicating the Olympic Games and the Olympic values to the broadest possible audience, including to younger generations of Olympic fans," he said in a press release.

As the representatives of Terra stated, the delivery of the information via the two channels would be custom - the users having both the possibility of seeing the programs live and of requesting only the most interesting parts, in reruns. Fernando Madeira, CEO of Terra Latin America, also described the Olympics as an opportunity for the customers of the company but, above all, for the company itself, whose future actions and full abilities will be better known from now on.

"Terra's internet platform is able to deliver full Olympic Games content via different channels at the same time, live and on demand. The agreement with the International Olympic Committee represents a great opportunity to enhance the content for Terra TV and mobile, as well as showing our innovative capabilities in offering exclusive premium content to Terra's users," the Terra official asserted.

As cited by The Washington Post, Terra's website will become available 24/7 come August 1, and will be divided into 13 channels. Each of them will air different sports competitions, so that each user's needs will be met.

I think it is very smart to air the Olympics on the internet, because the games might again be late at night and nobody wants to watch them on t.v. and 3 am. Well im only 15 but it seems like i know a lot huh? lol
