Bang & Olufsen, once more releasing surreal stuff

I won't tell you the Bang & Olufsen story once more because it would really suck, especially now, when there is much to say about their latest and coolest release, the Beolab 3. Beolab 3 is the thing you should go for if you really care about the way your portable MP3 player sounds like, on portable speakers... or if you think your actual docking station sucks.

The Bang & Olufsen Beolab 3 is a sound system with a world of its own as it represents the utmost elite in portable sound, no matter how you decide to measure this: sound quality, design, power, cool... the Beolab 3 is nothing less than pure B&O heritage.

The Bang & Olufsen Beolab 3 comprises two cabinets made from solid aluminium sporting a shape mixed between a cube and a sphere, perfect for eliminating potential stationary waves and offering almost zero cavity coloration.

These units are a true monument of versatility as they can go anywhere, from placement directly on tabletops or shelves (they sport an included rubber stand), or can be wall-mounted, placed on floor stands and so many more - their size and acoustic characteristics make sure the sonic response is even and optimal, wherever the Beolab 3 are.

The Bang & Olufsen Beolab 3 sports 4.5" woofers and 3/4" tweeters... do not let the rather diminutive size trick you: the response is far exceeding such dimensions and the frequency range is actually wider than what many larger loudspeakers can produce. From a 50Hz thorough and substantial bass up to 20kHz highs, the Bang & Olufsen Beolab 3 are challenging everything there might be to your portable music.

While each unit sports a double balanced passive radiator and the Acoustic Lens Technology met in the highest-end Beolab 5 loudspeakers, these speakers will offer you sound you didn't know your MP3 player could produce. The Acoustic Lens ensures that the high-frequency sound is spread evenly on a 180-degree field covering an impressive area in your room and eliminating floor/ceiling reflections for a pristine sonic representation; this will offer you an unbelievable soundstaging and hyper-transparent acoustics.

The ICEpower amplifier inside the Bang & Olufsen Beolab 3 generates a very small amount of heat and needs little space for cooling while being capable of blasting 250W in the drivers, way more than any other similar set of loudspeakers can deploy. At the same time, the proprietary Adaptive Bass Control system allows for three bass settings for placement of the Bang & Olufsen Beolab 3 in corners, against walls or freestanding in the room; all for the best sound you've ever gotten from your portable music player.

Prices around $3,300 (reportedly). Further specs here (PDF). Enjoy!
