Anti climax

Guitar Hero 5 is now out and gamers who are not interested in picking up the new annual iteration of the Activision published music simulation are now no doubt looking forward to September 9, when Harmonix and MTV Games are set to put out The Beatles Rock Band, a game, which aims to replicate both the felling of playing the band's music and the experience of their cultural impact.

And Harmonix has been teasing gamers for some time by saying that the title featured a “surprise” track that it would not talk about. Well, players who have gotten their hands on advance copies of The Beatles Rock Band seem to have spoiled that riddle by revealing that the track is “The End.”

Of course, it all makes sense in hindsight. “The End” was the last song the four original Beatles recorded together and it features the famous line “And, in the end, the love you take/ Is equal to the love you make,” which some consider to perfectly sum up the entire philosophy of The Beatles and their main musical message.

“The End” is also the only track from the band where Ringo Starr has a drum solo, which was created by muting the other instruments during recording. But gamers might find the inclusion of the track a bit anti climatic, considering the fact that it is quite short and other more famous Beatles tracks were not included in the game, the most significant of those probably being “Hey, Jude!”

Harmonix is betting big on The Beatles Rock Band. After all, it's the first time that the Apple Corp, which is handling the legacy of the band, has allowed their music to be introduced to the videogame medium and people close to the band have been directly involved in the making on the game. In a few weeks, we'll see how it does when up against Guitar Hero 5.
