The development team at Stoic Games and their new partner Sony are ready to talk a little bit more about the versions of The Banner Saga that are set to be launched on both the PlayStation 4 home console and the PlayStation Vita handheld in the coming year.

The two companies are offering a new trailer for the video game and say that both versions are set to make the best possible use of the technology offered by the platforms.

The announcement states, “The gameplay, UI, and design all work extremely well on the platform. The idea of holding The Banner Saga in your hands and utilizing both the Vita’s controls and its touch surfaces while being able to move about freely in the real world is something we’re really keen on developing and seeing in action in 2015.”

The Banner Saga uses a very beautiful art style and solid turn-based combat mechanics to tell a gripping and dramatic story about two races that need to join forces to battle an ancient evil.

Stoic Games introduces a range of cool challenges and some very interesting choices for the gamer to make, even if the narrative is mostly linear.

The main gameplay feature is a new system which gives combatants both health, which also influences how hard they hit, and armor that can be used to protect them from incoming blows.

Players will have to carefully choose the group of characters they take to the field and then mix and match their abilities in order to make sure that they destroy enemies as quickly as possible while minimizing their own losses.

The tone of the game is mostly dark, but the storytelling and the characters create replayability.

The Banner Saga 2 is at the moment in development

Stoic Games and Sony are also collaborating on the next installment in the series, which is also set to be launched at some point next year.

The game was officially revealed during the PlayStation Experience, but no information about its story or its mechanics has been offered so far.

Presumably, the original will first launch on the Vita and the PS4 before details are revealed.

Stoic Games will probably keep the core tactics-focused gameplay and will find means to enhance the way gamers can affect the outcome of the battles in The Banner Saga 2.

The game is confirmed as coming to the PlayStation 4 and will probably also be available on the PC.
