Stoic Studio, the team behind the crowd funding powered The Banner Saga, have released the first screenshot taken directly from the game, after teasing their fans with images of the characters and the game’s landscapes.

The image is still a work in progress and Stoic plans to add an extra layer of effects to bring the game world to life.

The art director, who goes by the name Arnie on the official boards, has stated, “This combat board is for our tutorial combat, where the player is learning how the mechanics work. It’s a tiny combat board. It is in no way indicative of the average size of the combat boards in the game. Different battles will vary in size, but I don’t think we have any others this small.”

The Banner Saga will first be launched as a free-to-play game that focuses on combat and a role-playing system will be added for a second phase, a digitally distributed package with a price.
