Unless you have been living under a rock, you have surely heard of the plaguing Translation Lookaside Buffer erratum that hit AMD's Phenom and Barcelona quad-core
processors last year.
This tiny detail brought AMD close to the bottom pit and made investors run away in fear. I have mentioned in a previous article that the B3 stepping of the quad-core processor fixed the issue and both Barcelona and Phenoms are waiting for a sign to hit the retailers' shelves.
However,
AMD has delayed the launch of the upcoming quad-core Phenom 9700 processor series until the second quarter of the year, although it was previously slated for mass availability starting the first months. The B3 revision of the K10 quad-core processors is already in production and has set AMD's plans back on track for the second-quarter release, when Intel's 45-nanometer Core 2 Extreme processors will face the Phenom 9700 and 9900 competition.
Advanced Micro Devices has announced that the fixed Phenom 9700 and 9900 processors will make an appearance during the upcoming CeBIT show that will be held in Germany in March. During the same event, the company will also showcase the low-end, low power 9100e processors.
Moreover, the upcoming tri-core processors in the Toliman family are expected to show up at the event. The Toliman family is comprised of quad-core Phenoms that ship with a disabled core. The tri-core Phenom parts are alleged to be based on defective quad-core Phenom CPUs.
Although has officially stated that
the B3 stepping has fixed all the CPUs issues related to the TLB erratum, but the company refused to reveal the actual shipping date for the three Phenoms. Therefore, there might be a chance that the CeBit showcase will also coincide with the processors' official unveiling.
