You'll have to wait until IDF in San Francisco for a proper introduction

With IFA just around the corner, a colleague and I are getting ready to head over to Berlin, where IFA 2014 will take place from September 5 to 10.

We expect to see many things there, from new computers and displays (like ultra-wide curved screens) to new 3D printers and systems featuring DDR4 RAM. Phones and wearables will also surely be in abundance there.

Alas, there is one technology that won't be very well represented: the USB Type-C connector.

You know, the Universal Serial Bus technology that doesn't care which way is up, and should be able to read 10 Gbps speeds thanks to the USB 3.1 specification.

Sure, it's not compatible with previous USB technologies, but things had to change sometime. Besides, USB Type-C will coexist with USB 3.0 for ages, just like the latter is still found alongside USB 2.0 on motherboards.

Still, we have to sadly inform you that you won't see much, if anything, of the Type-C USB tech at IFA. The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) just announced that the official inauguration will happen at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) scheduled to take place in San Francisco, between September 9-11. At least it's going to happen more or less at the same time.
