The world we're all living in has become a very dangerous place over the past few years, as the number of violent crimes has reached unprecedented levels across the world. Just in the US, for example, which is considered to be one of the world's safest countries, the number of reported violent assaults and crimes is over 1 million per year. And this is the reason why the Avurt company developed the IM-5 portable self-defense device, which can be carried around very easily and delivers quite a punch to any possible aggressor.

The Avurt IM-5 launcher is a small, handheld unit that launches PAVA (Capsaicin II) filled projectiles at attackers up to 40 feet (12 meters) away. It's non-lethal and extremely easy to use, not to mention portable, since it folds to better fit within the user's bag. Moreover, it has also been fitted with a laser sighting system, which is switched on automatically upon unfolding and allows the user to acquire the exact target even during nighttime.

The IM-5 uses high-speed PAVA Live Rounds and can launch up to 5 such projectiles. The effects of such a "bullet" are quite nasty for the assailant, because when the Live Round hits the target, it bursts open, releasing an intensely powerful cloud of PAVA powder all around the attacker. This cloud instantly causes a severe stinging in the attacker's eyes, nose and throat, leaving him/her temporarily blinded and gasping for air. Moreover, since the powder sticks to the attacker, even one hit is enough to neutralize most threats.

The Avurt IM-5 retails for around 300 US dollars, while a pack of 25 Live Rounds costs around 60 US dollars, which are some really low price tags for some items that might actually save one's life in case of an attack.
