Asus has unveiled a new wireless router to integrate a built in USB print server for enhanced printer sharing at home or in small offices. The Asus wireless router is especially useful in homes with multiple computers and a single available printer. The device can act like a printing server and thus taking off the user's shoulder the printing hassle, while maintaining low costs for the operation.

Asus presents a non productive scenario, in which the files are to be transported via thumb drive from a regular PC to the printer-attached PC. The user wastes time waiting for PC boot, copying the files and then printing them. The WL-520GU wireless device allows the user to share the printer directly on the network.

The router is capable of working with a wide range of printers, and accepts printing jobs wirelessly across the network. The money the user spares by using a single printer to serve all the print jobs across the network can be redirected towards printer consumables: ink, paper or spare cartridges.

Asus' wireless router uses the 802.11b/g Wi-Fi specifications and features, a standard Ethernet connected router four-port 10/100Mbit switch and a single USB 2.0 port. Although the product is alleged to support the majority of printers, the producers do not specify whether it is able to provide the extra scanner/fax features on MFD printers.

The router also supports bandwidth on demand (BOD) that lets the user configure the way applications are accessing the network and allows for manual allocation of bandwidth. This way, you are able to prioritize the most important tasks that fly over the network and eliminate issues such as network lags while online playing or using VoIP services. The Quality of Service feature manages the bandwidth and automatically makes it available each time it is possible.
