Apple may have just lost common sense with iPhone 6

In 2012, during iPhone 5’s launch, Apple’s Phil Schiller said that it was really easy to make a product that’s bigger and that everyone was doing that, so it shouldn’t be a challenge at all. Fast forward two years and we see that Apple has just introduced a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch iPhone 6.

Nothing wrong with that, but at least allow Apple fans who prefer smaller devices to get the chance to upgrade from their iPhone 5 to the new iPhone 6, but with a similar 4-inch screen.

There are many who consider the size of a display very important for day-to-day use, and 4-inch does seem the right size for the human hand. Obviously, that’s not important for Apple now, even though the company praised the 4-inch display of the iPhone 5.

But you don’t have to take my word for it. The iPhone 5 ad that ran back in September 2012 can speak for itself. But what credibility can Apple have when they claimed the iPhone 5 was the thinnest smartphone on the market at 7.6mm, even though there were already two other smartphones available with less than 7mm thickness?

4-inch display is perfect, but now you get to choose between 4.7-inch or 5.5-inch

According to Apple, the iPhone 5 has been designed to fit perfectly in your hand. Due to its 4-inch screen it should be easy to type emails, surf the web and do “amazing” other stuff that you simply can’t with just one hand if you use a larger smartphone.

There was nothing in Apple’s iPhone 6 presentation that would justify the reasons for which the company decided to go for much larger displays and completely remove the option for a smaller screen.

However, Apple has found a solution for those who want to use their iPhones with just one hand even if their displays are much larger. They have added a gesture which allows users to double touch the ID button in order for the whole display to slide down so that they can reach anything at the top.

That’s perfectly alright, but why say that the 4-inch screen is the perfect size for everyone and then launch two products that are way above that size?

I can also understand that it’s the competition that drove Apple’s choices when it comes to display size, but not allowing fans to choose a smaller iPhone 6 version after you made them believe that 4-inch is the best size sounds like hypocrisy to me.

Obviously, two years in the tech world is a pretty long time. New technologies appear and older ones get refined, so I can understand that Apple needed a change and a larger iPhone 6 would perfectly make sense.

Apple definitely did not invent Wi-Fi Calling

I just hope that Apple fans and those who prefer their products can see past all this PR talk that’s been intoxicating consumers. Certainly, it’s not just Apple that does that, but the Cupertino company does seem to take pride in making people believe they are the only ones with the right answers.

Now, that iPhone 5 advert looks totally hilarious. Even if I know it’s all just marketing, I can’t stop but wonder whether or not I will laugh watching certain iPhone 6 ads one or two years from now.

Not to mention that some of the features Apple announced yesterday as groundbreaking, like gestures, one-hand mode, and Wi-Fi calling, are already included in other smartphones that have been launched on the market for quite some time.

Oh, perhaps they are new for iPhone users, but saying no one else has them does seem, once again, hypocritical. Who are you trying to fool now Apple?
