The HP TouchPad is one of those devices that hackers love. The tablet is almost three years old and runs the near-extinct webOS, but it has been made to work with several versions of Android and Linux.

From the same category comes the HTC HD2 smartphone. The handset was released back in 2009 with Windows Mobile Professional 6.5 when it launched on the international market. A T-Mobile exclusive version came several months later to the US.

The handset was the first to don a 4.3-inch display which was pretty huge for a smartphone back in the day. Over the years, the HTC HD2 remained one of the sweethearts of those who like to tweak things.

Over the years, the HTC HD2 has been fitted with that version of Android we have seen on the Nokia X as well as Firefox OS, Windows RT, Windows Phone 8, Windows Phone 7.5. The handset was even turned into a dual-boot machine capable of switching between Android and Windows Phone 7.

The six-year-old HTC HD2 gets Lollipop treatment

As for Android, the handset took advantage of Android KitKat, Jelly Bean and Froyo. So what is the logical evolution of things?

You've guessed it. The HTC HD2 has been awarded Android 5.0.1 Lollipop treatment, via a special ROM which is currently in alpha state.

You probably shouldn't be attempting at installing the ROM on your HTC HD2 for the time being, because only the display and audio are said to be working.

Nevertheless, xda-developers senior member, macs18max who successfully booted the Lollipop ROM, says he will continue to work on the port until it becomes more stable.

In 2009, the handset arrived with a 4.3-inch display with 800 x 48 pixel resolution (217 ppi) and a Qualcomm QSD825 Snapdragon processor nestled under the hood.

These are pretty low specs compared to the current standards, but even so tweakers continue to maintain the legacy of the HTC HD2 alive.
