But they will only be available on the day the OS launches

It seems that all the talking about the unavailability of the Vista Driver for G80 cards did leave some scars on Nvidia's face. And I say this because probably most of you think that Nvidia doesn't care about this problem or has somehow completely abandoned this issue at least until the first DirectX 10 games come out. As it turns out, these thoughts - although completely plausible - are not true after all. Because not only does Nvidia have a G80 driver for Vista, but they have also announced the launch date.

To continue the story, if you have the curiosity to visit Nvidia's site you will notice that under the Vista compatibility section, the 8800 GTX and GTS are present but there's the "**" mark ahead of the string. In case you want to know what that means, you should look at the end of the page because Nvidia has prepared a little surprise for you. You will end up reading the following message:

"** GeForce 8800 requires updated drivers for Vista, which will be available to download when Vista is available at retail in late January."

So the Nvidia boys are not only aware of the problem, but they are really trying to solve it. I really don't know what went wrong with the driver, but I think that Nvidia didn't release it because they wanted to use all the available time to make it work. Whether it will deliver or not remains to be seen. Let's hope that in another 3 weeks we'll know whether Adrianne looks better when rendered under DirectX 10 API or not.
