On Monday, Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin tried to estimate the damages caused by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake which hit Turkey.
It seems that 117 people lost their lives in Ercis region, while other 100 people were killed in Van. The devastating phenomenon made approximately 740 other victims, but it's still difficult for the authorities to estimate the proportions of this catastrophe, since many individuals are still missing.
Despite the fact that rescue teams joined efforts to save the victims, it seems that many Turkish people are still trapped under collapsed buildings.
The situation is even more dramatic, since lots of other people are left with no place to stay or live in a place with no utilities.
Officials tried to estimate the effects of the earthquake and are now talking about 500 to 1,000 lost lives.
Turkish Red Crescent, the most important Turkish organization managed to provide 1,000 tents, and 500 food packages to the individuals in need.
Foreign countries such as the US, the UK, Germany, Poland, Greece, Switzerland and Poland offered Turkey their unconditional support.
Even Israel, one of the countries which has a weak connection with Turkey offered to help the government with anything they might need.
The airport at Van was severly affected by the phenomenon, along with a long list of hotels, gas stations, and commercial buildings.
Zulfikar Arapoglu, Ercis's mayor stated that countless other people still suffer while being caught under ruins, while the city's infrastructure suffered also great damages, since representatives talk about 25 to 30 commercial buildings which were buried by the earthquake.
"There are so many dead. Several buildings have collapsed, there is too much destruction. We need urgent aid. We need medics, " declared Arapoglu.
This is the second most dramatic incident after the two earthquakes that made Turkey tremble in 1999, when almost 18,000 people were killed.
