We’re only a few days away from the official Windows 8 debut, but it appears that the company’s first tablet ever is completely stealing its mojo.

On Monday, Microsoft finally rolled out the first official Windows 8 advertisement, while the Acer CEO decided to badmouth the Redmond-based technology giant and say that it could kill everyone in the industry. A few hours later, Microsoft updated the Windows website ahead of the new OS debut, while the first boxed Windows 8 copies went on sale in the United States.

The official Surface pricing was unveiled on Tuesday alongside all technical specs. Surprisingly, the company removed all information a few minutes later for no clear reason, while another set of photos with Samsung’s very own Windows 8 Start Menu also reached the web.

The cheapest Surface was already sold out on Wednesday, while an analyst explained that Microsoft’s tablet didn’t make much sense in such a competitive market. Intel emphasized once again that Windows 8 was expected to save the collapsing PC market, while Amazon rolled out a special offer that let you buy Windows 8 for just $40 (€30).

Another preview of Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 would be released in November, Microsoft said on Thursday. During the same day, the company announced the hackathon, confirming that all those who would attend would get free food and drinks.

Finally on Friday, it has emerged that Microsoft’s profit slipped to $16 billion (€12.2 billion) as everyone waits for Windows 8. What’s more, it appears that the company is infringing the EU laws with the one-year warranty it offers to all Surface buyers.

Since it was a week mostly focused on the Surface tablet, we’ve prepared a large photo gallery for you, just to admire the new device in all its glory.
