It's a great example of 3D printed electronics

Ever heard of the Pi-top? Well, you're about to, because it's a really cool critter, if I do say so myself. Admittedly, anything based on the Raspberry Pi tends to be on the awesome side, but that's not the only reason this time.

What you see in the attached photos is a 3D printed laptop. That's right, apparently it's already possible to 3D print mobile PCs.

Granted, the circuits all come with the Raspberry Pi credit card-sized computer, since 3D printing of complex electronics is still complicated and limited.

Still, a group of UK engineers wanted to make a 3D printed laptop, so that's what they did. They spent 160 hours printing the thing from PLA filament, but it was a success. The shell is made of 3 pieces, with two having been printed at the same time.

Pi-Top project will be posted on Kickstarter soon. The kit will include a 13.3-inch screen and a keyboard-trackpad combo device.

The notebook will have a 1366 x 768 pixels resolution, LED backlighting, a 40 pin LVDS interface, and the Raspbian operating system. The main target customer base is that of students and budding inventors / computer engineers.
