The Redmond Company has debuted the "Develop Without Borders" Challenge inviting developers to "reach out and make a difference." The contest aims to identify applications built on the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite that address critical charitable issues.

"Design an application on the 2007 Microsoft Office system between June 26th and October 1st, 2006 to help your favorite charity. If your application is judged to be one of the best, you and your charity win a share of over $160,000 in awards to help put your concept in action," reads a message posted by Microsoft.

Microsoft has put forward a few inspirational ideas including fundraising, compliance, data management and community outreach in order to start projects and is inviting developers to submit as many projects as possible without sacrificing quality over quantity. The application design should be correlated with the latest Microsoft Office 2008 beta software, but The Redmond Company doesn't require an actually built application, stating that a detailed presentation will suffice to make a valid entry.

"As a developer, you have a unique understanding of how technology works. You know how to harness it effectively, to resolve problems and streamline processes. Why not use your talents to help a cause you really care about? Charities across the globe need your assistance. But they need more than soup cans. They need souped-up applications that make the work they do easier and more successful. Reach out. Give back. Make this world a better place," stated Microsoft.
