A 2000 Watt monster will be showcased at CES

CES is everywhere and I have to say that I?m getting pretty tired of hearing the same abbreviation 20 times a day. And it hasn?t even started yet. Every manufacturer will be there with new products and it will try to make the best impression ever. New DDRs, high-end video cards, SSDs and many more will be there for your pleasure. So, if you can go there, I suggest you do that because you?ll have the occasion of seeing the biggest PSU ever.

There are not many things I can say about the 2000W monster coming from Ultra Products but the numbers look impressive enough. What I can tell though is that the PSU has the capacity of delivering about 1800W of the total 2000W through the +12V connectors alone. In case you want to translate that into amps, you?ll find out that the monster can handle about 150A when running on full load. And that?s enough to jumpstart two vans in case you need your PSU to do just that.

Because high currents can produce electromagnetic interferences, a +12V line can only cope with a maximum of 20A, motive for which modern PSUs split the +12V output in 2 or more rails and place limiters in order to keep the current below the 20A limit on each rail. Tagan?s 1100W Turbojet has 4 +12V rails, each rated with a maximum current of 20A while Enermax?s 1000W Galaxy model has 5 rails capable of outputting a maximum of 17A each. Keep these numbers in mind because if you apply the ?20A per rail? analogy to the 2000W giant, you?ll get no less than 8 +12V lines capable of outputting almost 19A on each rail. If this thing comes out at CES, it will deliver a shock across all PSU makers.
