In case you were thinking to build a Googlebomb, read this article and tell me about your plans after that. A 23 year-old Polish Internet user might spend 3 years in prison for creating a Googlebomb which affected the image of the country's president Lech Kaczynski. According to Philipp Lenssen from Google Blogoscoped, Marek W. from Cieszyn used a software solution created by him to modify the results provided by the Mountain View company's search technology. That's why all the Polish users who searched the Internet for 'kutas', the Polish 'penis', got the official website of the president as the first result.

The authorities detected the modification of the Google SERP in March and managed to identify the Polish guy because he was using his home computer with a unique IP address. "Finding him wasn't difficult - the man used his home computer, which police easily traced by its IP address. The computer amateur confirmed that he wrote the program. "I just wanted to verify my skills and check if the software works" was his his explanation during the hearings," Google Blogoscoped wrote.

This is not the first time when the users manage to create Googlebombs which became famous. If you're not familiar with this term, let me explain it to you. Basically, a Googlebomb is a modification in the results provided by Google Search in order to display a certain website as the first link for specific terms. Just like in our case when the users typed 'penis' and received the official page of the Polish president.

A Googlebomb can be done with ease since the Google algorithm is based on the number of backlinks for each websites crawled by the Googlebot. This way, a website that has backlinks on a bigger number of websites obtains a better PageRank on Google.
