For many celebrities, Thanksgiving is also the perfect opportunity to welcome fans into their homes (not literally, though) by posting countless photos on social media of anything from their best homemade dishes to their table arrangements for the holiday dinner. For Cher, it is the chance to speak up against it.

“2 My Crew… I Hope Tomm.is a Glorious day 4 ALL OF U Remember.. A Kind Word, Gesture, Or Compliment can make ANY1′s DAY! THANX4BeingThere4Me [sic],” Cher tweeted the other day, wishing her people and her fans all the best.

She doesn’t actually say “Happy Thanksgiving!” but her message could be read as such, which is precisely what one of her fans did, and instantly wrote to her asking if they knew wrong that she didn’t celebrate the holiday.

Cher’s reply was immediate and to the point: Thanksgiving is the celebration of the beginning of a crime of historic proportions and she had no intention of being a part of it.

“I DON’T ! 4 me & my Family,it’s a day,When every1 is free 4Diner & a movie,Not 2 celebrate the beginning of a GREAT Crime,” she wrote.

“Stealing Land, from a ppl,Who believed,Owning LAND Was LIke Owning SKY! We gave them Blankets laced w/Smallpox,” the diva added, when asked to elaborate on the “crime” statement.

Cher is partly of Cherokee ancestry and this is not the first time she speaks against celebrating Thanksgiving. It’s also not the first time when she makes headlines for being so blunt on Twitter: in September, she came under some fire after going on social media to say Miley Cyrus’ performance at the MTV Video Music Awards was horrible.

She ripped into the young pop star for dressing inappropriately, for twerking when it was clear she couldn’t dance, and for sticking out her tongue repeatedly. In Cher’s eyes, Miley could have been as controversial as she wanted as long as she put on a good show, which, she said, didn’t happen.

Cher backtracked on the comments later but we have a feeling she won’t be doing the same about the Thanksgiving ones.
