Advanced countries are well aware of the fact that they need to protect their computer systems against cyberattacks. Smaller countries, such as Thailand, are just coming to realize that cyber security is a serious issue.

Thailand’s government held its first ever national cyber security meeting on Tuesday. Bangkok is determined to develop an 8-point strategy aimed at reinforcing national security, the country’s National News Bureau reported.

The 8 areas targeted by the meeting, chaired by the country’s Prime Minister, include cooperation between local agencies and international organizations, raising awareness of cyber threats, supporting IT security research, and maintaining legislation.

The Electronic Transactions Development Agency has been tasked with leading the implementation of the national cyber security strategy.

The Royal Thai Police is in charge of maintaining the law online, while the country’s Computer Emergency Response Team (ThaiCERT) is responsible for making sure that all security units are protected against online threats.
