Thief made away with 3 Birkin bags filled with expensive jewelry and watches

If Theresa Roemer’s name doesn’t ring a bell, it should from now on: she is a Texas millionaire, former beauty queen, entrepreneur, and wife and mother who is also the owner of the most eccentric closet in the US, if not the world. Her closet isn’t just huge, it’s also packed with very expensive items, from bags to shoes and furs and, of course, diamonds.

A short while ago, Roemer was featured on an ABC segment in which she showed off the 3-story closet she liked to call her “female man-cave.” The other day, a thief broke into it and made away with 3 Hermes Birkin bags filled with jewelry and watches.

First things first: Roemer told the cameras (second video below) that she had the closet built because, every time she held a charity function at her home, her guests would always ask to see her collection of handbags and shoes. So, she thought, why not build a closet so large it could actually host a function?

One year and $700,000 (€522,899) later, she had it: a 3-story closet that looks like a house but is only inhabited by an impressive collection of fashion items. It also has a champagne bar and a vanity corner where one can get their hair and makeup done by professionals.

Right now, it also has many items missing: Roemer and her husband went out for dinner one night, and because it was supposed to be just a “quick” outing, she didn’t lock the door or set the alarm on her “female man-cave.”

The 3 Birkins taken are estimated at $60,000 (€44,819) each, so the thief knew to pick the most expensive ones. He also took Rolex watches and family heirlooms, which makes Roemer suspect that it must have been an inside job.

The police don’t see it that way, she reveals for KHOU.

“They say it doesn’t look like an inside job at all. They said it was very professional, like too professional. The police said it could have been somebody that, like I said, saw all the publicity, Google Earthed it, figured it all out, flew in here, who knows?,” she says.

The thief used a glass cutter and then an umbrella to break the window of the bathroom on the first floor and, from then on, he had the entire house closet at his disposal for about 40 minutes. He knew exactly where to go and which items to take.

Roemer is mostly upset for the family heirlooms.

“He took heirloom items that were passed to me from my husband’s mother that has passed away. I mean I don’t care about all this [other stuff]. I really don’t care about this [stuff]. I care about the stuff that was passed to me. No one deserves this. I don’t care if you’re wealthy. I don’t care if you’re poor. Your personal belongings are your personal belongings,” she laments.

Incidentally, it was these heirlooms that she also bragged about in the TV special on her closet. She even indicated an amount when asked how much her collection cost her so yes, it does seem like someone knew where to come and what to take from there.

Right now, the police have no suspects.
