The Democrat lawmaker comments on gender equality

Sen. Leticia Van de Putte has made an impact during the Texas Filibuster put together by Democrat Senator Wendy Davis to stop a restrictive abortion law in Texas.

As I documented before, Davis held the Filibuster to delay voting on a law that would impose a 20-week abortion ban. The session took 10 hours instead of 13, because it was stopped for breach of protocol.

However, the bill was passed over the midnight limit and it has not gone through, although lawmakers are still debating on the matter.

"At what point must a female senator raise her hand or her voice to be recognized over her male colleagues?” Van de Putte asked in the middle of the proceedings, and her statement was met with cheers by the crowd.

HuffPost reported that the Senator had just attended her father's funeral. She spoke of Republicans putting an end to the filibuster over Davis mentioning the Sonogram Law.

She argues that sonograms should not be a requirement for abortions, as they are not mandatory if one goes out to get a tonsillectomy or an appendectomy.
