Only recently, Texas agreed to ban the use of gas chambers in order to kill unwanted dogs, cats and other animals.

Thus, several animal shelters in this part of the United States will have to find a more humane way of killing whatever unwanted animals come their way.

Sources say that, for quite some time now, the American Humane Organization has been going on and on about how using either carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide to kill animals is a rather horrific method of putting an animal to sleep.

This is because it often takes about 25-30 minutes for the dogs or cats to pass away. During this time, they are likely to experience severe stress.

Presently, sodium pentobarbital injections are considered to be the most humane method of ending an animal's life.

Specialists explain that, once injected with this chemical compound, the animal loses consciousness in a matter of seconds.
