Microsoft is offering IT professionals, but not only, the chance to prove just how much of a geek they truly are. The Redmond company has launched a new contest on Facebook, and is inviting users to answer IT-related questions and assess their level of ‘geekiness.’ With the Windows Server IT Geek Quiz being designed to test IT knowledge, true geeks will get bragging rights, and more. Essentially, Microsoft allows users to not only take the quiz, but also measure their geekiness with their friends and share results.

“Think you’ve got IT geek chops? Are you 100% geek or only a 50% novitiate? Log into Facebook and check out what folks are saying about our new Geek Quiz and then hit that Go To Application button and take the quiz yourself. Answer 10 questions, check out your score and share with folks not as smart as you are. And while you’re at it, browse the FB page and fan-up to get info on the latest Windows Server product news, content and free offers. Hit the Reviews tab and give us your feedback on Windows Server 2008 R2, too,” a member of the Windows server team revealed.

Earlier this week, Bob Muglia, president, Server and Tools Business, revealed that Microsoft was building the next versions of Windows client and server in parallel after the Windows 7 – Windows Server 2008 R2 model. While reluctant to refer to the successor of Windows Server 2008 R2 with the Windows 8 moniker, Muglia did reveal that the next iteration of Windows Server would be a major release.

“The Microsoft Windows Server platform delivers core IT functionality for business[es] of all sizes. Windows Server 2008 R2 builds on the successes and strengths of its Windows Server predecessors while delivering valuable new functionality and powerful improvements to the base operating system. New Web tools, virtualization technologies, security enhancements, and management utilities help save time, reduce costs, and provide a solid foundation for your information technology infrastructure,” Microsoft added.
