Ubuntu 13.10 is just around the corner, but the new Unity 8 will not be ready until then. Fortunately, users can test it and see what's all the fuss about.

Canonical has been promoting Unity 8 for a while and it's practically one of the main pillars of the convergence project. Unity 8 should provide a common experience for the Ubuntu desktop and Ubuntu Touch OS.

If you want to try the new Unity, then you're in luck because Canonical has uploaded it in the official repositories. You'll just need a terminal and some crazy copy & paste skills. Open a terminal and enter the following commands:

sudo apt-get install unity8 unity8-fake-env unity8-private

Be patient, there are a lot of things to install and it might not work. It's a work in progress and the Canonical developers are updating it constantly.
