The new interface of the video player

A few days ago, I informed you about a new video player tested by the online video sharing service YouTube that brings a lot of new functions just into its interface. Basically, the new player allows you to view related clips with ease as well as get the embed code and the URL of the video from the same screen. The "Menu" button is redesigned and a simple click on it brings you the "embed" and the "url" functions. However, I'm not able to see other features provided by the classic YouTube player such as the size of the clip (fullscreen or window mode) as well as the share and the watch again features.

Haochi from Googlified discovered a simple way to test the new clip and embedded it into an article published on his blog. You can also test the clip at the bottom of the page. Obviously, the clip was not confirmed by the YouTube officials so, if you click on the video to view it on the official page, the online video sharing service displays the old interface of the player. As far I can see, the video player is entirely built in flash, a feature that allows it to display some eye-candy effects and include related links or similar videos into its interface.

In the recent time, YouTube was the subject of numerous updates released by the parent company Google but I guess all of us are still waiting for the "Claim your content" feature meant to stop the copyright infringements. As you might know, Google's CEO Eric Schmidt recently said that the Mountain View company is about to release the function that will require users to check if their uploaded clips are infringing somebody else's copyright. Although the feature was designed just after the YouTube acquisition in October 2006, "Claim your content" is scheduled for the summer of 2007.
