Today is a big day for Samsung fans around the world. Their favorite company is finally making available the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones in retail locations across various territories around the world.

Samsung is currently busy promoting its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge flagships, and recently we have shared with you that promo clip where walkers-by were asked to give their opinion on the phones.

And now, UK retail giant Tesco is also helping Samsung in its quest to sell as many flagship phones as possible. Actually, Tesco has come up with a very atypical strategy to promote the handsets, one which will surely draw quite a lot of attention on itself.

Tesco ships the Galaxy S6 Edge off to space

The British retailer has attached the dual-edged Galaxy S6 to a special balloon and launched it into space as part of a competition that will end up giving away 2 handsets via Twitter (as seen at GSM Arena).

The balloon carrying the precious cargo was launched from an undisclosed location within the UK Peak District national park. Samsung's new flagship went out to greet the infinity of space, facing 160 km/h winds and sub-zero temperatures as low as -57 degrees Celsius.

Tesco also made sure to outfit the balloon with three GoPro cameras that help it keep an eye on things. While the space trip is a fine and dandy affair, you’re probably wondering what steps you need to follow in order to win a Galaxy S6 Edge.

Well, those interested in the promotion will have to talk about the new flagship on Twitter and use the hashtag #S6EdgeofSpace and the word “Drop” at the exact time they believe the balloon will pop. So basically, you’ll need to make a prediction about how long you can expect the balloon to last up there.

This is how you win one of the handsets. For the other, you will need to use the word “Land” when you think the handset will hit the ground.

So if you think the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is a cool device, you might want to give this competition a try. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up finding the oracle in you.
