The tablet has an 8.3-inch display with FHD

When Tesco launched its first Hudl tablet, everybody was a bit skeptical a good slate could come out of a supermarket-giant. But as reviews and customers have attested, the tablet was quite decent for what customers were asked to pay.

The success of the first Hudl (it sold over 750,000 units since it launched in late 2013) made Tesco a little bit euphoric and the retail chain soon announced it was looking to go into smartphones.

It made some bald claims too, saying it had plans of building a premium smartphone to compete head to head with the Samsung Galaxy S5, which will of course sell for a budget price.

Since then, Tesco came back to reality and realized such plans are pretty bogus. So it subtly abandoned its smartphones ambitions and decided to focus on the Hudl instead.

Tesco updated the Hudl with an 8.3-inch display

So today, the company is rolling out the next-gen Hudl 2 tablet, which is bigger, fast and overall much better, reports IbTimes.

Compared to the previous model, Tesco maintain the design overall but shrunk down the bezels, so the tablet looks much better and is easier to grasp.

The supermarket chain will offer it in a lot of coloring options (black, blue, purple, red, aqua, pink, orange and white), so if you need a dash of happiness in your life Tesco is now the place to go for both Nutella and a vibrant tab too.

The new Tesco is larger, coming in with an 8.3-inch display and now offer FHD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels). The company has swapped the original quad-core Rockchip RK3188 chip and placed an Intel Atom quad-core processor clocked at 1.83GHz instead fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 48GB via microSD).

Completing the spec lists are two cameras (5MP on the back and 1.2MP in front), Dolby-optimized speakers, dual-band Wi-Fi and a battery that’s good enough to go for 8 hours.

Like a clever fox, Tesco has included a bunch of extra child safety tools on the tablet, so the Hudl 2 can be thought of as a kiddie-friendly tablet too.

When first setting up the tablet, parents will be asked to set up features in order to block content or restrict the amount of time children spend a game on the tablet.

Tesco launches dedicated accessories for the Hudl 2

The tablet will go on sale for £129 / $208 / €164 but customers can lower the rate by using their Clubcard points. Each £5 Clubcard voucher can be turned into a £10 towards purchasing the Hudl 2, which makes things even more appealing.

Last but not least, Tesco is throwing in a bunch of accessories, including the Perky Purple & Red and Dream White & Bluespotted cases for the device plus colored on-ear and in-ear headphones, screen protectors and smart styluses.

Customers will be able to pick up a Hudl 2 starting October 9.
