Moonman, a 2D procedurally generated adventure game with pixelated visuals and a strange world to explore and craft stuff in, is now live on Kickstarter.

The game is being developed by a single man, Ben Porter, who aims to deliver a sandbox / exploration experience similar to the one in Terraria.

The author has been working on the game for over two years, and with development reaching its final stages, he took to Kickstarter in order to give the effort the final push it needs to get over the finish line.

The action is set on a nocturnal planet orbited by many moons and starts when Moonman, a mysterious character, is awoken by a magic mollusc, that sends him on a quest to discover fragments of moons from which to build a sun.

The gameplay includes a mashup of platforming, resource gathering, crafting, combat, and puzzle-solving, and each playthrough generates a procedural world to be explored, with populated towns, dark dungeons, exotic forests, underwater tombs, and foreboding castles and caves to explore.

A unique and charming universe to explore

The moon pieces are scattered all over the world, and they can be hidden in various nooks and crannies, held in possession by non-playable characters, or even inside hungry animals.

The game is designed to offer an enthralling single-player experience, with the exploration and crafting elements found in similar titles but with an increased focus on story.

In addition to this, players will be able to equip their character with various armor pieces and weaponry, changing the approach to combat.

You can gather resources and build your own base of operations, exploring the world at your leisure and slaying its biggest beasts, but at the end of the day, there will be a quest with a definite end to tackle and complete.

The artwork shows a quirky and interesting world, with bizarre monsters and otherworldly landscapes to explore, and an ever-smiling green Moonman to pilot through it all.

Moonman is also on Steam Greenlight. For more information on the project, you can check out the developer bog on the TIGSource forums.

The game has a prospective release date of mid to late 2015 on Windows PC, followed by Mac OS X and Linux later on.
