Jai Courtney in the action movie “Divergent”: look for him in theaters in 2015 in “Terminator: Genisys”

“Terminator: Genisys,” which will reboot the famous film franchise and introduce it to a whole new segment of the moviegoing audience, will be out in theaters in June next year. Because many fans are already too hyped up about it to stand the long wait, Jai Courtney, one of the stars of the film, is already talking about it to the media.

The other day, for instance, he revealed that it would not have an R-rating, but rather a PG-13 one, just like McG’s universally disliked “Terminator: Salvation,” which came out in 2009 and was also supposed to be a reboot – but ended up as a mere flash in the pan. All the other 3 movies had R-ratings.

Today, Courtney is offering fans hints as to what to expect from the film in terms of story, in a new interview with The Huffington Post Live.

Neither a remake nor a reboot

Because “Genisys” is still a long way from release, Courtney can’t exactly go into the details of the plot without getting into serious trouble with the movie studio. While he can’t say what the film will be about (it will be another few months before we even get an official synopsis), he will say this: expect the unexpected.

“We start in a place we're familiar with from the early films and then, you know, circumstances change. It somewhat shifts the course of events from that point,” he says.

In other words, “Genisys” will attempt to stand on its own, but will use the mythology we’re already familiar with as a starting point. Two more movies have already been ordered, which means we could be looking at an entirely different story than the one we got with the original franchise.

Courtney’s next comment seems to confirm that. “[It’s] not necessarily a sequel or a reboot. I don't even know how you brand it correctly. We're not remaking one of the early Terminator movies. And it doesn't necessarily carry on from the point where we left off,” he explains.

Whichever way this goes, Schwarznegger will be in it

One thing that fans can count on is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s involvement. The actor, who starred as lead in the original franchise, made but a brief CGI cameo in “Salvation” because his position as Governor of California didn’t really agree with his status as a movie star.

Now that he’s done with politics, Schwarzenegger is appearing in more movies, including his own action flicks, some of them more successful than others. However, the role that fans have been praying for him to reprise is the one in “Terminator,” and Courtney is convinced that he will also appear in the next 2 installments.

Of course, considering “Genisys” isn’t out yet and that there’s still a chance it might flop (no one thought it would happen to “Salvation,” but it did), let’s not get over ourselves here by talking about the other 2 installments until we see the proverbial goods delivered.

From what Courtney is saying, they will be, but we’d rather we saw that with our own eyes.
