Tennessee's ag-gag bill has been under the spotlight for quite some time now, mostly because many ordinary folks and public figures such as Carrie Underwood and Ellen DeGeneres asked time and time again that Governor Bill Haslam veto it.

By the looks of this, their pleas did not go unnoticed by the governor, hence his deciding not to sign the bill into law.

“First, the Attorney General says the law is constitutionally suspect. Second, it appears to repeal parts of Tennessee’s Shield Law without saying so. If that is the case, it should say so.”

“Third, there are concerns from some district attorneys that the act actually makes it more difficult to prosecute animal cruelty cases, which would be an unintended consequence,” Bill Haslam offered as an explanation for his deciding to veto this bill.

Green-oriented group PETA and several other animal rights activists now thank the governor for showing mercy to animals and ask that others do the same.
